5 Colorado Restaurants Out-of-State Students Need to Know About

You're a college student on a budget, living in Colorado for the first time. Dining hall food is convenient and free, but you have to admit it leaves your taste buds a little dissatisfied. Whether you're in Boulder, Denver, Colorado Springs, or anywhere else in the state, find one of these restaurants for an inexpensive meal that offers way more flavor than that dorm food ever could.

Frijoles Colorado Cuban Cafe

When you visit Lakewood, Colorado, make sure you stop at Frijoles Colorado Cuban Cafe. This boutique eatery offers all your favorite Cuban dishes, including plantains, empanadas, croquetas, and more. Reviewers on multiple sites, from Yelp to Facebook, rave about the food Frijoles Colorado Cuban Cafe serves. You'll find the cafe at 12095 West Alameda Parkway. It's closed on Mondays but open every other day of the week.

The Market at Larimer Square

One of the best places to go for inexpensive variety is Denver's Market at Larimer Square. This spot offers a big menu full of sandwiches, meats, breakfast foods, salads, and desserts. Grab a coffee drink and a bakery treat if you want something light, or go all-out at the deli for a great meal. The market has been open since 1983, and Denver residents have never stopped loving this place. You'll find the Market at Larimer Square at 1445 Larimer Street, and it's open every day of the week.

Backcountry Pizza and Tap House

Nothing beats the combination of pizzeria and bar, especially when you're looking for a great dinner and drinks place on Friday night. Boulder's Backcountry Pizza and Tap House has all your favorite bar foods, from jalapeno poppers to fried calamari to onion rings. Alongside the build-your-own and specialty pizza options, the pizzeria offers sandwiches and burgers, too. The draft list changes constantly, so try something new on tap every time you visit. Backcountry Pizza and Tap House is located at 2319 Arapahoe Avenue.

Narai Thai

Are you ready to enjoy some cheap, delicious Thai food? Narai Thai is in Colorado Springs, and it offers favorites like curry, tom yum, and stir fry. Bring your friends for a sit-down meal, or get takeout for a late night study session in your dorm room. Narai Thai has two locations in Colorado Springs. The first is at 805 Village Center Drive and is closed on Mondays. The second is called Narai Siam Cuisine and is located at 120 East Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard.

Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill

Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill is a small Colorado chain restaurant that's kind of like a Chipotle for Mediterranean cuisine. This casual spot offers fresh ingredients and lots of options so you can build your perfect meal. You'll find lots of locations in Denver and a few more in Colorado Springs and Boulder. Keep an eye out for more, because Garbanzo has plans to expand to additional Colorado cities.

Just because you're on a budget and you have access to the dining hall doesn't have to mean you only ever eat dorm food. Enjoy one of these delicious restaurants to give your palate something exciting for a change.
